iReturn – Navigate Palestine, Imagine The Future, is an enhanced version of the renowned trilingual iNakba App that was initially introduced in 2014.
The application is crafted to enrich comprehension of the Palestinian Nakba, its implications in the terrain, and the potential for rectification.
Through the iReturn app, Zochrot endeavors to leverage technology to recount a marginalized history and bring to light Israel’s veiled landscape of ethnic cleansing and coerced displacements. It furnishes users and beneficiaries with a platform to delve into that history while also conceptualizing a fair, viable, and peaceful resolution to the enduring crisis encountered by Palestinian refugees and internally displaced individuals (IDPs).
This app stands as a direct continuation of Zochrot's pioneering endeavors to propel a public discourse regarding a future of repatriation. It goes beyond the commemoration of the persistent injustices of the Nakba to offer a vision of optimism for tomorrow that encompasses the repatriation of all refugees and an equitable society inclusive of all residents. By revamping the iNakba app and transforming it into iReturn, a gateway to a future of return, our ambition is not merely to impart fresh knowledge to multitudes of users but also to amplify the voices of additional new adherents within a vibrant community devoted to the repatriation cause.
Through this distinctive and cutting-edge venture, we establish a platform where dialogues can transpire about the Nakba as an ongoing progression. Given that the Nakba obliterated Palestinian culture that thrived in this region until 1948, iReturn will prompt users to contemplate the suppression of the culture that strove to endure thereafter and how creativity too can be construed as an act of defiance.
With the iReturn initiative, Zochrot will provide an unparalleled instrument that can further erode taboos associated with the issue of the Nakba and the repatriation of Palestinian refugees. App users and beneficiaries will harness the iReturn app in innovative ways to deliberate on visions of return and proffer diverse insights. It will empower users to engage, contribute within the app, thus empowering its audience to partake in constructing knowledge, fostering hope, and envisaging a future.
The iReturn app introduces fresh avenues for educators, activist groups championing social reform, artists, tour guides, youth movements, and other change agents to delve into and scrutinize with more discernment and intentionality the occurrences of 1948. By placing repatriation at the core amid the suppressed histories of the Nakba as part of Zochrot's pursuit to motivate society – particularly the Israeli populace – to embrace an optimistic outlook concerning a future endowed with repatriation and perceive the return of Palestinian refugees as an opportunity as opposed to a threat.
Through the iReturn app, Zochrot pioneers innovative prospects for visitors and users not only to reassess local landscapes and concealed histories but also introduce a fresh vernacular encompassing vision, hope, and repatriation. Drawing from one of the most comprehensive Hebrew archives on Nakba, our aspiration through this project is to utilize our app as a conduit for engendering a sustained dialogue between bygone shadows and an envisioned future so as to transcend a dolorous and inequitable present.
The application was developed with support from the German international organization “Kurve Wustrow,” however, its content does not necessarily mirror their perspective.
